Having a baby is definitely a momentous event for some women. Holding your little one in your arms is something that you will remember forever, until you realize that you haven’t got enough sleep for the last three days.

One of the most common dilemmas new moms face today is getting complete rest after delivery. Tired from giving birth, they have to struggle with sleepless nights as their little ones are awake all night. Although this situation will only last for at least one to two months, new mothers need all the rest they can get every day to take care of their babies. Here are some simple hacks that they can use to squeeze in some zeds:

  • Nap every time you have a chance

 

If you have been experiencing sleep deprivation because you are taking care of your newborn child, ensure that you can squeeze in some naptime, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Although naps might not be considered as a full rest, it gives new moms added energy to take on her mommy duties. A good 15-20 minutes of naptime can make you feel refreshed and energized. When your baby falls asleep, take the opportunity to sleep as well. Let the maternity nurse handle the baby while you are getting some snooze.

This is important, especially in the first few weeks after delivery. If you are too tired to go to your doctor’s appointments for a follow-up checkup, then have your doctor visit you instead. There are medical facilities that offer doctor visit home services for patients and clients who cannot afford to leave their residence due to different reasons. If you feel that you are too tired to prepare and go out to fulfil your doctor’s appointment, then this alternative would be the best solution. The time you will allot for preparation and travel could be used to get some sleep.

  • Minimize use of gadgets

 

Taking photos of your little baby and posting them online for the world to see is addicting, but it is also robbing you of the opportunity to get your much-needed rest. When you are still recovering from giving birth and also taking care of your little one, you need to grab every opportunity to have a shut-eye to keep you going through the day. Avoid using too much of your time tinkering with your gadgets. Get some sleep instead.

 

  • Minimize caffeine intake

Some moms think that taking caffeine would help them to stay awake throughout the day. That may be true, but it can also mess up your nighttime sleep routine. Cut down your caffeine intake and go for a nap instead.
